The goal of interior design is to create a space that is distinctly you. Nate Berkus has said, “Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love.” However, when it comes to selling your house, the opposite is true. You want it to be a clean slate so that anyone coming through your doors can picture living there.
Our GetBurbed team has seen it all when putting a house on the market. So, we’ve put together some simple steps you can take to make things look new and neutral. A real estate refresh!
1. A fresh coat of paint indoors or out can be a game changer.
Again, choose a neutral shade. Not only are these subtle tones a classic, but they make everything feel fresh, new and bigger! Nothing negative there.
2. Organize and declutter!
Curbing the chaos will maximize your space. Give all your belongings big and small the KonMari test. Possibly pack up any items you don’t have the heart to get rid of but don’t have use of at the moment. You’ll thank yourself for that when it’s time to move!
3. Curate some curb appeal.
What is the first thing buyers see when they see your home? The outside! Plant flowers, lay mulch, give everything a good trim, maybe consider pressure washing. These are some easy ways to make your outdoors outstanding.
4. Stage your home.
Take down personal photos and add more impersonal decor. Again, you want buyers to picture their family photos on the wall. Add plants! They breath life into a home. Fresh flowers smell amazing and help with the happiness factor. Bowls of fresh fruit make the place feel lived in.
5. Last but certainly not least- give everything a deep clean.
Dust ceiling fans, wash all windows, even baseboards need love now and again. It all makes a big difference!
